Callie is a sweet little Brussels Griffon/Yorkshire Terrier mix. She is very laid-back and has a sweet temperament. Callie is generally shy, uncertain, and cautious around adults, especially if they are standing or leaning over toward her. However, if they sit - either on furniture or on the floor - she's much more comfortable.
Callie is doing great with her foster sisters (three large dogs, two smaller dogs, and two cats). Her foster-sister kitties won't have much to do with her, but she has not tried to chase or taunt them in any way. She seems curious about them but leaves them alone. She doesn't play with her canine foster sisters much, but she's very interested in them and likes being around them.
Callie's not quite housetrained yet, but is getting very close. She is very food-motivated and will work for treats. She's very smart, but that sometimes gets overshadowed by her fears.
Callie loves to give kisses and loves being petted. She doesn't like being picked up and she's not terribly fond of sitting in your lap, but a lot of patience, she would probably become a happy lapdog. She's learning things quickly and easily. She's alert and inquisitive, but not pushy or domineering at all.
Callie definitely needs a forever home where the people are kind, compassionate, and most of all, patient. She gets scared very easily. Callie isn't a high-maintenance dog, but she does need reassurance and encouragement. She's made huge strides in two months and is much more settled and quite a bit less-easily frightened.
Her foster mom says, "Most terrier breeds usually irritate me. I just don't have the personality for them. But Callie is just the sweetest little thing I've ever met! We're working on training her and building her confidence so that she won't be so fearful. She's really smart, so training will go smoothly, I'm sure. Building her confidence may take a little longer, but I think that mostly, all she needs is to know she's safe. That can take some time, but she's already made huge strides. Whoever adopts her is going to be so lucky to have one of the best dogs I've ever fostered!"
