Hope Humane Society of Texas accepts owner releases under the following conditions:
Owner must agree to sign over ownership to HHS, but must foster the animal in their home until the time of adoption. **HHS cannot take up available foster homes for owner release pets
-
All pets must be current on all vaccinations and spayed/neutered. For dogs, they must have had a heartworm test within the last 4 months and be current on heartworm prevention. For cats, all cats must have been tested for FIV/FeLV. **Medical records will be required not only for verification but also to provide to the new owner. If medical care is needed, we can help with that through our participating vet clinics, but owner will have to pay for the services at the discounted rates.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SURRENDER
How long does it take to get an animal adopted?
Answer:·· It varies, depending on breed, age, sex, and many other factors.· Some animals get adopted quickly, and others take longer. Dogs get adopted quicker than cats due to the differences in overpopulation and demand. It can sometimes take up to 6 months (or even longer)to get a pet adopted.

What if I cannot foster the animal until adoption?
Answer: We would be unable to take the animal in unless we have a foster home. Talk to family members, coworkers, friends, or anyone you can ask to see if they would agree to foster the pet. If you cannot foster the animal and do not have anyone that can foster for you, then we would be· unable to take them into our adoption program. We cannot take up a foster home meant for a homeless or stray pet with an animal that already has an owner. It is your responsibility to see the animal through to adoption if you can no longer keep it.
Why do I have to make a $35 donation to your group for my owner release?
Answer: We are helping you and we are an all volunteer, non-profit organization. We are happy to help find a home for your pet, but we require a donation to our group in order for help to be given.
Why does my pet need to be up to date on all medical before being surrendered?
Answer:· We are a non-profit organization, and we do not receive any city, state, or government funding. We raise all of our donations from the public so we have very limited funding. We cannot ask the public to pay for medical care for an animal that already has an owner. That is your responsibility.
Do you screen potential new adopters?
Answer:Yes, we do. We review each application to find the best home for the pet. This includes obtaining vet references and taking the pet on a home visit. We do a home visit with any potential adopters, so that we can see the environment that the animal will be living in as well as meet any other pets that are living in the household.·
